Historical details:

The land was part of an original estate of 50 acres granted to Thomas Walker in 1839 The original home was built in 1882 and sold to James Crawford in 1883 who enlarged the home greatly in the years that followed.

Mr Crawford was a pastoralist who had properties in Queensland and Northern territory. He was a justice of the peace in 3 states , was a founding member of St George sailing club, first president of Sandringham Public School parents and citizens association and a member of the committee of the st George Cottage Hospital. Crawford Rd Brighton Le Sands is named after him. During the first world war he made 6 blocks of land on the Fontainbleau estate available for the erection of homes for returning ex-servicemen or the widows of those who did not return.

In the years that followed the property was passed to members of the family then sold and subdivided.

The current owner of "Fontainbleau" added extensions upstairs in 1970's and at the rear in 2002.
